Our philosophy has always been that the reason most people choose to become self employed is so they can have the freedom to operate as they wish. Many entrepreneurs become self employed simply because they don’t like being told what to do. We have always felt that buying a franchise is kind of like working for someone else and paying them for the privilege of doing so.
Let’s face it, without hard work and effort any legitimate business will fail. It comes down to who’s the one working hard to keep the business running? Typically, it’s the business owner. It’s their blood, sweat and tears which makes them successful, not the franchisor sitting back at the corporate office collecting royalty checks.
Now to be fair, franchises do provide value for their offerings and fees. Training, marketing support, unique products or services and branding are all benefits which can be expected with a franchise opportunity. It’s safe to assume a business model that has been at least somewhat successful elsewhere can be easily replicated in your area. But all of this comes with a hefty upfront fee and on-going royalties.
